The Wedding Banquet

Set in Seattle, the reimagining focuses on two intertwined couples sharing a home. Lee (Lily Gladstone) and Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) are a devoted couple going through intense IVF treatments to start a family, while living with Lee's mother, May (Joan Chen)—a highly active, performative PFLAG ally. In the garage apartment lives Angela's best friend Chris (Bowen Yang) and his boyfriend Min (Han Gi-chan), a wealthy Korean art student whose visa is set to expire.

When Min's formidable grandmother (Youn Yuh-jung) demands he return to Korea to take over the family enterprise, Chris—who struggles heavily with commitment issues—balks at marriage. To secure the visa, a green card scheme is cooked up between Min and Angela. The introduction of the traditional Korean matriarch forces the entire household into a chaotic tailspin of hidden identities, accidental hookups, and a massive, culturally intricate banquet where everyone's carefully constructed boundaries completely fracture.
