🎬 Better Than Chocolate

Set in vibrant late-1990s Vancouver, Better Than Chocolate centers on Maggie (Karyn Dwyer), a 20-something woman who leaves law school to work at a radical feminist bookstore, Cyberwoman. Shortly after embarking on a passionate new romance with Kim (Christina Cox), a charismatic artist who lives in a converted van, Maggie's life is thrown into chaos when her newly divorced, conservative mother Lila (Wendy Crewson) and teenage brother unexpectedly move into her small apartment.

Not yet out to her traditional mother, Maggie frantically tries to hide her relationship with Kim while juggling financial strain at the bookstore. Around them rotates an eccentric, loving community: Judy (Peter Outerbridge), a transgender woman who falls in love with bookstore owner Frances (Ann-Marie MacDonald), and a neighborhood rallying against bigoted censorship threats. As secrets unravel, Lila is forced to confront her own prejudices and discover her own liberation.
